A CUT ABOVE THE REST

EARLY COMPETITION RECORDS INDICATE THAT KCC INITIALLY HAD A BILLIARD ROOM SINCE THE EARLY 1930’S. IN 1957 UNDEFEATED WORLD BILLIARD CHAMPION WALTER LINDRUM PLAYED AN EXHIBITION BILLIARD GAME AT THE CLUB AND MORE RECENTLY SNOOKER LEGENDS STEVE DAVIS, JIMMY WHITE AND MARCO FU HAVE ALL PLAYED IN EXHIBITION GAMES.

BY THE EARLY 1980’S THE BILLIARD ROOM HAD BECOME KNOWN AS THE SNOOKER ROOM DUE TO THE EVER-INCREASING POPULARITY OF THE GAME GLOBALLY. IN 1984 THE THEN CONVENOR PETER AUSTIN RENAMED THE SNOOKER ROOM “THE SANCTUARY” AS MANY PATRONS SOUGHT REFUGE THERE FROM DAILY REALITIES AND IT REMAINS NAMED APPROPRIATELY TO THIS DAY. DURING THE MOVE TO ITS PRESENT LOCATION IN THE CLUB’S BASEMENT, TWO OLD RILEY TABLES WERE REPLACED BY THREE BCE WESTBURY PROFESSIONAL SNOOKER TABLES. THESE ARE WELL MAINTAINED WITH NEW CLOTHS FITTED ANNUALLY ON THEIR HEATED SLATE BEDS AND THEY AS WELL AS THE PLAYERS ARE WELL ATTENDED TO BY A PROFESSIONAL SNOOKER MARKER.

THE THRIVING SNOOKER SOCIETY, NOW RUN BY A COMMITTEE OF SIX, AND COMPRISING OF OVER 60 ACTIVE MEMBERS, ENSURE MANY INTERNAL COMPETITIONS ARE HELD ANNUALLY FOR SINGLE AND DOUBLES PLAY, INCLUDING DIFFERENT FORMATS OF SNOOKER AND BILLIARDS. CLUB TROPHIES ARE MAINTAINED FOR ALL WINNERS AND PRESENTED AT AN ANNUAL AWARDS NIGHT. THE EARIEST RECORDS SHOW THAT FIRST INTERNAL TROPY WAS WON IN 1949.

SNOOKER SOCIETY MEMBERS ALSO ENJOY MANY EVENTS AND CAN JOIN BOTH A MATCH AND A FRIENDLY MATCH TEAM. THE CLUB COMPETES IN AN INTER-CLUB TOURNAMENT, PLAYING HOME AND AWAY AGAINST OTHER CLUBS FOR THE COVERTED “INTER-CLUB TROPHY”, LAST WON BY KCC IN 2015. NUMEROUS FRIENDLY MATCHES ARE PLAYED ANNUALLY AND VISITING CLUBS FROM OVERSEAS ARE NOT AN UNCOMMON SIGHT, JOIN FOR GREAT NIGHTS OF SOCIAL SNOOKER.

THE SNOOKER SOCIETY HAS ALSO PARTICIPATED IN MANY MATCHES AGAINST OVERSEAS CLUBS FROM THE UK, AUSTRALIA AND ALL OVER ASIA.

THE SNOOKER SOCIETY WELCOMES ALL MEMBERS AND THEIR GUESTS TO PLAY.
